“CHECKMATE” By Nick Ringelstetter

Created due to the popular demand of something ‘Doctor Who’ themed, “Checkmate” is Nick’s representation of what it would look like if Doctor Who ventured into one of our painter’s worlds.

In this painting you can see the T.A.R.D.I.S. about to land in a strange realm that is seemingly being overrun by a large octopus. The sharks swim by carelessly, redirecting our attention to the water below them. Could this underwater realm actually be above water? Are the sea creatures flying, rather than swimming? Did a pour game of chess force the octopus’s… arm? This painting is up for your interpretation, as there are too many concepts at play to have one single-minded story. Allow your mind to run wild as you gaze upon “Checkmate”.
